Serve: Ideas
Paul, in the epistle to the Galatians, wrote:

“Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.” (Gal 6:9-10, NASB)
Mosaic is a place of, amongst other things, service. We desire to serve others. We do not only desire to serve but we DO serve.
What are some ideas for our community for how we can serve others? Please post your ideas here.

I think what we are doing, taking small things that we can handle, $500 for the self-defense program. The Habitat for Humanity was good but maybe a little to much for us. I think what ever service we help out with should be small and local, like the one mentioned above. Surely there are people out there who could use little help. Like the OSU students we helped last year.
Maybe we need to let some local people know that we are here to help in that way. Maybe when we do our door tag, that explains what Mosaic is we could include an little blip about our service to help others, in a local small way.

Bob,
I totally agree with you on this. Small and local are two things I think that we can and should do. I would like to start getting some other ideas together…as well as let others know about what we are doing. Maybe we can add something into our “What is Mosaic?” statement about service and support being a major part of what Mosaic is all about. I guess I would like to get some suggestions on how to go about all this in a simple, practical way.

Love this discussion, gentlemen! I completely agree with Bob. I believe if we just keep our eyes open we can find plenty of opportunities. For example, there’s not a week that goes by without some story in the newspaper about a person or family in great need in the Tulsa community. And as the holidays draw near, there will be even more. Also, I imagine the projects that are already affiliated with Jenks Church could always point us to someone in need. I’m sure the Food Pantry at Contact would be blown away by a generous donation during the holiday season. Or the Pathway Fund that the Deys’ family is working on. There’s probably a student at ORU that could use help with a plane ticket to go home for the holiday break. The group that provides monthly social activities for young people with Asperger’s Syndrome (like our son) could probably use the donation of a gaming system or snacks for their meetings. I’ll quit for now!!! But I’m sure I can think of more!
